Microsoft 365 Tenant to Tenant Migration Steps

It is always best to perform Microsoft Office 365 tenant to tenant migrations of any scale with a phased approach to migrate OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, Exchange, and others, one at a time.

Migrating from one Office 365 tenant to another is a multi-faceted undertaking. However, we have listed an overview of the migration processes below.

Step 1: Sign in to CloudFuze Account 

The First step to migrate from one tenant to another in Office 365 is to create and log in to the CloudFuze account. 

 

Step 2: Add Both the Microsoft 365 Accounts to CloudFuze

Locate the OneDrive/SharePoint icon under the list of business clouds and click on it. Log in using your Microsoft admin login credentials and authorize it. Repeat the same process to add the destination tenant. 

Step 3: Add Apps From the Source and Destination Tenants

The first step is to add the apps that your organization plans to migrate. For example, from the list of apps to migrate, you may first choose to transfer users and data from the source OneDrive tenant to the destination OneDrive tenant.

Step 4: Configure the Source and Destination Tenant Apps

The next step is to visit the Team Migration section and configure the source and destination tenant apps (e.g., OneDrive for Business) in the correct order as per their domains. This process helps ensure that your IT team transfer users and data from the actual source tenant app to the destination tenant app and not the other way around.

Step 5: Map the User Accounts

In the Mapping section, map the user accounts to transfer the data in the correct path. Since user accounts in the source tenant app and destination tenant app do not match, auto-mapping does not work.

Step 6: Map Permissions 

Map permissions to the right users in the destination tenant. By default, the permissions are mapped with respect to the email addresses and can be customized based on the business requirements by clicking on the edit option. 

Step 7: Configure Migration Options

Configure a few migration options as the final steps prior to starting the Office 365 tenant to tenant migration process. Choose the migration type as one-time for the first migration run and add all stakeholders of the project for migration report updates. 

Step 8: Preview and Start the Migration 

Reviewing all the selected parameters is critical to avoid any unnecessary add-ons. Once everything looks good, start the actual migration process. 

Step 9: Microsoft 365 Tenant to Tenant Migration Status  

After initiating the migration, you will be redirected to the Reports dashboard. The “In Progress” status indicates that the migration is currently under process.  

The status turns “Processed” once the migration is completed successfully.
