How to Add a Domain to Office 365 Account

Microsoft Office 365 can be customized with a company’s official domain name. The domain also serves as an email address for users within the organization. In fact, Microsoft allows IT admins to add up to 900 domains to their company’s Office 365 account. Office 365 admins can add multiple domains to one Office 365 account and assign it to different users. In this tutorial, we provided easy-to-follow steps on adding a new domain in Office 365.

Step 1:  Log in to Office 365 Admin Center

Go to office.com and enter your Office 365 admin login credentials to access the admin dashboard.

Step 2: Go to Settings -> Domains

Locate the Settings tab and then click on the Domains link listed under it.

Step 3: Click on + Add Domain

In the domain management page, click on the +Add Domain tab. This will open a form where you can enter the new domain details of it. Keep in mind that adding a new domain also requires verifying it.

Step 4:  Enter Domain Name

Enter the name of the domain and click on the “Use this Domain” button. You can add any type of domain to Office 365 as long as you have the domain ownership.

Step 5: Verify the Domain

Microsoft offers four different ways to verify the domain.

  1. Godaddy Sign-in: If your domain is in a Goddady account, just sign into your Godaddy account by clicking on the Verify button. Microsoft automatically verifies the domain ownership. This is the easiest of all four ways. If you register your domain with some other domain name registrar, you must follow one of the following three ways.
  2. TXT Record: Add a TXT record to the domain’s DNS records
  3. MX Record: Add as MX record to the domain’s DNS records.
  4. Text file: Upload the text file provided by Microsoft to your website’s (must be the same domain as entered) root folder.

Step 6: Domain Has Been Added

Note that domain verification may take time in second and third methods due to DNS propagation delay. The first and fourth methods are always almost instant.
